Tim Healey of Newsday reports that the Mets have hired former minor league pitcher Jono Armold to be their minor league pitching coordinator.
Armold, 32, has been in the Texas Rangers organization since May of 2016, with the last three years coming as their pitching coordinator. He was their minor league pitching coach for the previous two-plus years.
Prior to joining the Rangers, Armold was the pitching coach at the University of Texas at Dallas for two seasons. The former 30th round pick of the Brewers in 2012 pitched in parts of two minor league seasons. He also spent a year as an associate scout for the Brewers before landing the job with the Rangers.
Armold is taking the spot vacated by Ricky Meinhold earlier this offseason. Meinhold was hired to be the director of pitching for the Lotte Giants in the Korean Baseball Organization.
Armold recently received a postgraduate degree in Data Science earlier this year.
