The Mets have now won six straight series against the Indians, Phillies, Braves, Reds, Giants and the Braves – which they wrapped up on Wednesday with another impressive power display and a stellar performance by Steven Matz.
The Mets are 13-3 in their last 16 games and have won 15 of their last 19 games after their 7-2 showing at Citi Field. Now the Amazins embark on a 11 game West Coast road trip against the San Diego Padres (11-17), Los Angeles Dodgers (14-14) and Colorado Rockies (13-14).
There’s nothing here that the Mets can’t handle and with the news that they will not have to face Clayton Kershaw, I expect our team to keep winning series and come away with no worse than an 8-3 trip.
Aside from Matt Harvey, the rotation has now settled into a great groove led by the veteran Bartolo Colon and the youngster Noah Syndergaard. Jacob deGrom has impressed, but southpaw Steven Matz has really turned some heads with his prowess and poise.
With another four homers in Wednesday’s win, the Mets now have a league-leading 40 through their first 26 games, the most in any 26 game stretch in franchise history. It was was the fourth time this season the Mets have hit four or more home runs in a single game.
Lucas Duda homered twice, for his sixth and seventh homers of the season and he is on the verge of another of his classic homer tears.
And let’s not forget Asdrubal Cabrera, who launched his second home run of the season, and continues to make Sandy Alderson look like a genius. The veteran shortstop has shined defensively and is batting .324 over his last 20 games. If I were Terry Collins I would leave him in the two spot whether David Wright is in the lineup or not.
Needless to say, Michael Conforto, Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker have proven to be a lethal combination and I expect that to continue.
This West Coast swing should provide lot’s of great pitching, continued explosive offense, and reliable finishing touches by our bullpen. So stay up late with me and enjoy the ride.
