According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Mets have requested to interview Indians’ GM Mike Chernoff for their president of baseball operations position.

Morosi notes that it’s unclear if the Indians have granted their request. This report comes on the same day that the news broke Theo Epstein was stepping down from the Cubs and that the Mets request to interview Brewers’ executive David Stearns was declined.

Chernoff, 39, has been the Indians GM since 2015 and has been in the Cleveland organization for 17 seasons. The New Jersey native’s dad Mark has been the program director  of WFAN since 1993.

Sources continue to tell me, that Rays executive Bobby Heck is being seriously considered for a role in the front office.
