With Terry Collins resigning as Mets manager after seven years with the team at the conclusion of the season, many names have swirled around as potential replacements for the long time skipper.

Some clarity has been made on a few of them to this point. Jon Heyman of Fan Rag reports that the Mets have had conversation with former Detroit Tigers skipper Brad Ausmus about potentially replacing Collins.

In a separate article, Christian Red of the Daily News said New York has yet to reach out to Chicago White Sox third base coach and former Met Joe McEwing or Cleveland Indians first base coach and former Met Sandy Alomar Jr.

Ausmus, 48, did not have his contract renewed by Detroit after spending four years with the team. The Tigers decided to strip down their roster this year, trading away stars Justin Verlander and Justin Upton as they look to rebuild.

The former catcher compiled a 314-332 (.486) record with the club from 2014-17. He was also had a long major league career, playing 18 seasons with the San Diego Padres, Tigers, Houston Astros and Dodgers.

According to Heyman, Ausmus could be appealing to a few teams as manager, including the Philadelphia Phillies or Boston Red Sox should the latter choose to part ways with John Farrell.

“Ausmus recently told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic he’d be happy to manage next year if the right opportunity comes along,” Heyman said in his article. “Rivals suggest Ausmus didn’t look especially happy by the end in Detroit, and his team looked stale, finishing 11-34 to finish with the worst record in the game and take the No. 1 draft choice in next year’s draft.”

Oppositely, the Mets have not been tied to McEwing or Alomar Jr., despite their names being thrown around as potential managerial candidates.

“Nobody has reached out to the White Sox to ask permission to talk with me,” McEwing told the Daily News by phone. “I’m very fortunate to have started my coaching career with the White Sox, and it has been nothing but amazing. I’m just focused on the White Sox moving forward.”

The 44-year-old spent five seasons with the Mets from 2000-04 and has been coaching for over a decade. He managed the White Sox Single-A affiliate the Winston-Salem Dash in 2008 and won Manager of the Year honors the following season.

McEwing has been coaching with the major league team since 2012.

Alomar Jr. also has ties to the Mets, appearing in eight games with the team in 2008 before transitioning to a coach. He has been coaching with the Indians since 2010 and served as interim manager during the 2012 season.

“Our focus is this right now. I’m not really thinking about any of that stuff,” Alomar Jr. said. “Every year my name comes out, but the reality is, until I get a phone call, something like that, it’s a rumor. Like I say, I’m not discussing anything until the playoffs are over. Right now I’m just focused on this team. That’s it. Sorry guys. That’s all I can say.”
