Believe it or not, this is shaping up to be one of the most exciting finishes to a New York Mets season as we’ve seen in a very long time. The drama, the insanity, the agony and the ecstasy, it’s all there…

And with just two weeks to go in the regular season, the Mets are standing at the precipice of what once seemed like an improbable NL wild card spot.

I’ve lost count of how many times this Mets team was left for dead this season only to see them bounce back to life in the most thrilling, extraordinary and heart-pounding ways. This is a team that refuses to die and has shown a remarkable resiliency.

But now it gets even better and to be sure – even more climactic – as the Los Angeles Dodgers roll into town, this after the Mets completed a dominating four-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks to keep their playoff hopes alive and well.

The way I see it, this weekend series against the Dodgers represents the one last roadblock that can keep the Mets out of the playoff picture. Sweep this series or take two of three and you can assuredly count the Mets in.

However, lose two games or God forbid three, and it could be all over for the Amazins and it becomes highly unlikely that they get that second wild card. There’s a lot riding on this series… It’s literally do or die.

With rising stars Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto and Amed Rosario leading the Mets offense, I believe we match up pretty well against a stacked Dodgers lineup that includes Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson, A.J. Pollock and of course that pesky Justin Turner (ankle) who might not be in the lineup tonight.

The Mets are 42-29 at home this season while the Dodgers are 39-33 on the road, but keep in mind that Los Angeles already clinched the division so they may not be as motivated as the Mets are this weekend.

The pitching matchups for this series is to die for… Strap yourselves in for some blistering heat, sweeping sliders and knee-buckling curves as the Dodgers throw their big three; Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Walker Buehler, against our big three; Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, and Zack Wheeler.

This is going to be an epic battle – no doubt – and the Mets are going into it with a ton of momentum. If they can take this series, they won’t play another team with a winning record until the final weekend of the season when they host the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

Love him or leave him, Mets manager Mickey Callaway has this team firing on all cylinders and as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, he continues pushing all the right buttons.

Seasons like this one don’t come around very often for our Mets, and time and time again I’ve dreamed of just how good this team could be if they ever got their hitting, pitching and defense all synced up and playing to their capabilities at the same time. We are now seeing it on full display, call it perfect timing.

There’s one last bullet to dodge… All that remains is to get the job done this weekend and then we can all exhale a little and start talking about what our postseason roster will look like. 🙂 Enjoy the series and LFGM!
