Las Vegas bookmaker Bovada released their latest World Series odds on Thursday, and the New York Mets continue to shoot up their rankings.
The Mets now have the 5th best odds among all MLB teams at 9/1 which also ranks third in the National League.
Shockingly (not really!) the Washington Nationals have dropped out of their stranglehold on the top spot all the way to a 3-way tie for 8th place with 14/1 odds. (Har-veys Better!)
Heading into Thursday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Baseball Prospectus placed the Mets’ chances of reaching the playoffs at 78.2 percent, and their World Series chances at 7.4 percent. The Nationals’ chances are less than half of the Mets.
Along with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Mets one of the hottest teams in baseball right now and everything seems to be rolling our way.
With today’s win, the Mets have moved to a season-high 11 games over .500 at 63-52. They now have 10 home sweeps of two or more games this season, and according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time the Mets did that was in 1986 when they had 11.
The starting pitching has been remarkably incredible all season long, but lately they’ve taken it up to a whole new level and are overpowering even the top offensive teams in the league.
Then throw in the revamped offense which has completely reenergized and bolstered the team, and what we have now is a focused, determined, and confident group that believes in themselves and that never stops coming at you. As Terry Collins said yesterday, “They can taste it.”
The Mets are an absolute juggernaut and a force to be reckoned with right now and there’s no reason to believe that’s going to end anytime soon. Everything is all coming together for them.
At this stage of the game, forget about the wild card, this is all about winning the NL East and going for that World Series title. We have the the big young arms to see this through, and every other team out there knows it. The Nationals are yesterday’s news, they’re finished. This is our time.
