According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today the New York Mets have avoided arbitration with pitcher Matt Harvey and the two sides have agreed he will make $5.625 million in 2018.
Harvey, 28, went 5-7 with a 6.70 ERA, 1.694 WHIP, and only 67 strikeouts in 92.2 innings while allowing a whopping 21 home runs. His missed time from the middle of June to the end of August due to a stress injury to the scapula bone in his throwing shoulder.
Harvey will be getting a $500,000 raise from his 2017 salary of $5,125,000 and he will be a free agent after the 2018 season.
His horrendous 2017 season was following up 2016 when he had a 4.86 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 92.2 innings.
Saturyda is the last day for players and teams to exchange arbitration numbers with the Mets still needing to come to terms with AJ Ramos, Jeurys Familia, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Travis d’Arnaud, Wilmer Flores, Hansel Robles and Zack Wheeler.
Earlier this week the Mets avoided arbitration with right-handed pitcher Jenrry Mejia as they settled on $1.729 million. This was basically just a paper move as the Mets still hold the rights to Mejia but he was given a lifetime ban in 2016 after a third positive test for performance-enhancing drugs.
