The New York Mets have announced that Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians has been postponed due to rain.

With stormy conditions and rain expected for most of the day, the Mets have taken the early decision to call the game now in order to prevent fans from travelling.

Instead, the two teams will play a split-admission double-header on Sunday at Citi Field.

Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:40 p.m. and game two has been scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

Game one will be broadcast on SNY while the second game of the split double-header will be shown on ESPN.

Additionally, the Mets have also announced that the Francisco Lindor Grass Growing Bobblehead promotion, which was scheduled for Saturday, will now take place on game one of Sunday’s doubleheader. The giveaway, presented by Northwell Health, will be given to the first 15,000 fans in attendance.

The Mets have had a slew of games rained out recently, including a bunch in the month of May alone. They had three games in four days postponed at the start of the month, and there were also two games against the Braves rained out on consecutive days at the end of April. Last Saturday’s game against the Nationals was suspended after three innings due to rain too.

In terms of the rotation going forward, Max Scherzer (3-2, 4.88 ERA) was scheduled to get the start for the Mets on Saturday. It remains to be seen whether he will go in game one on Sunday, or if Mets manager Buck Showalter opts to head in a different direction. Justin Verlander (1-2, 4.76 ERA) was slated to be on the mound on Sunday prior to today’s rainout. Kodai Senga (4-2, 3.77 ERA) is currently scheduled to start against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. Whether that order is tweaked in light of today’s rainout remains to be seen.
