The New York Mets have announced that their game against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday has been postponed due to rain.

The two teams will play a split-admission doubleheader on Saturday, August 12. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m., and game two is slated to start at 7:15 p.m.

Persistent weather has been forecast in the New York area all weekend, and the series opener against the Braves on Friday was shortened due to rain. The Mets lost that one 4-0 with David Peterson enduring a tough night on the mound and the bats unable to figure out Max Fried.

Tylor Megill (3-1, 3.96 ERA) was scheduled to get the start on Saturday after a rough last outing in San Francisco. Spencer Strider (3-0, 1.80 ERA) was due to be on the mound for the Braves. And, per Will Sammon of The Athletic, Max Scherzer will now not pitch against the Braves in this series at all. He will be eligible to return Tuesday with the Mets in Detroit. Fellow ace Justin Verlander is scheduled to make his Mets debut against the Tigers next week.

However, it is worth noting that rain is expected on Sunday too, which means that it is no guarantee the day game against the Braves will go ahead. The Mets hadn’t announced a starter for Sunday, while Charlie Morton (3-2, 2.76 ERA) was scheduled to get the start for Atlanta.

After a frustrating loss to the Braves on Friday, the Mets will have to wait at least a day to try and put that right but, given the immediate forecast, that wait may turn out to be a little longer with Sunday’s game likely in doubt too.
