The Mets have fired pitching coach Dave Eiland according to James Wagner of the New York Times. They’ve also fired bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Eiland was hired prior to the 2018 season along with current manager Mickey Callaway. He was under contract through the 2020 season.

As a staff, the Mets have a 4.70 ERA this season, which ranks 20th out of 30 teams and the third highest in the National League. The Mets bullpen has the second worst ERA in the NL at 5.46.

Hernandez was in his first season with the team.

Mike Puma of the New York Post was the first to report that 82-year-old Phil “Vulture” Regan will takeover as the Mets pitching coach and Ricky Bones will return to his bullpen coach role.

Regan has worked in the Mets system as a minor league pitching coordinator and has a good rapport with many pitchers currently on the team.

The firings come a day after the Mets fall into fourth place in the NL East and closer to last place than first. GM Brodie Van Wagenen will address the media at 5:00 p.m. ET.
