It’s official… The New York Mets today announced that they have signed former All-Star righthanded reliever Chad Cordero to a minor league contract and assigned him to Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. Cordero, 28, went 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA in nine games this year with the Seattle Mariners.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Mets and free-agent relief pitcher Chad Cordero have agreed on a minor-league deal which will be made final today.
Cordero, now 28, had labrum surgery at the end of the 2008 season and he missed all of 2009.
He battled his way back with the Mariners in June, but after posting some poor results, he was optioned back to Triple A on July 15th, and Cordero elected to become a free agent.
Omar Minaya originally drafted Cordero 20th overall when he was the Expos GM in 2003. Cordero went on to save 128 games for the Expos/Nationals before suffering his injury, and he was often mentioned in several Mets rumors over the years.
Come on down, Chad… you’re the next contestant on the price was right. <sigh>
