A real good pitchers duel between two pitchers trying to find their way back to the majors.
D.J. Carrasco has been dealing lately. After carrying a perfect game through 4.2 innings in his last start Carrasco led this game off with 5.2 innings of no-hit ball. Unfortunately for Carrasco the Bisons could not score any runs for him and he was taken out of the game Justin Hampson allowed an unearned run to score. The Indians began the 8th inning with a double and while trying to bunt the runner to third Michael Fisher couldn’t field the bunt cleanly, letting the batter reach safely. A two-out single later in the inning would plate the only run of the game.
As usual there wasn’t much going on with the offense except for Lucas Duda. Duda picked up two more doubles, but each time was left stranded at second. His hit streak now stands at eight games. Michael Fisher had the only other productive day at the plate reaching base three times. Hopefully Zach Lutz being promoted tomorrow will give this offense a shot in the arm and actually allow them to score some runs.

A relatively encouraging performance from Tobi Stoner and the only one he has had this year. He let the leadoff man reach safely in each of the first four innings of the game, yet amazingly allowed a run in just one of the inning (a solo home run to open the 4th). I wouldn’t count on Stoner to being able to do that on a routinely basis and be as successful as he was tonight. Things like walking the pitcher to lead off an inning, especially minor league pitchers that hit even less than big league ones, is a big no-no. Take notes Tobi. Erik Turgeon rebounded nicely from a terrible outing yesterday to pitch a scoreless inning and pick up his third save of the year.
Stoner was actually the one who got the B-Mets offense going with a leadoff double in the 3rd inning. Two batters later Reese Havens brought him home with a triple, but was left stranded at third. Havens’ bat seems to have heated up lately with four extra base hits in his last five games, but the strikeouts have been an area of a concern. He has always had pretty high strikeout rates, and the increased strikeouts can easily be attributed to rust from sitting out so long because of injury, but it is still a situation to monitor closely. It was a two-out single (he seems to have a lot of two-out hits lately) in the 6th inning from Allan Dykstra that would score the winning run and it was a Salomon Manriquez two-run home run in the 8th that put the game out of reach.

The two best words to describe Matt Harvey‘s performance tonight are dominant and overpowering. He did almost nothing wrong out there. Harvey was pitching a perfect game through 4.1 innings, until it was broken up by a Michael Sheridan single and later in that inning he gave up a two-out, two RBI single that would account for all of the Stone Crabs runs. Harvey had both of his breaking balls working and was commanding all his pitches which resulted in a phenomenal nine strikeouts and no walks. Four of the five outs he recorded were via the groundball. The bullpen allowed just one baserunner in three innings to close out the game.
The Mets did most of their damage with two outs in the 3rd. Matt Den Dekker led the inning off with a double, advanced to third on a fly out, but then Jefry Marte struck out to leave him at third with two outs. Stefan Welch got into a two strike hole before being plunked by a pitch two open the way for Wilmer Flores to drive a single back through the middle to bring Den Dekker home. Cesar Puello followed Flores and didn’t hit the ball hard, but the outfielder misjudged the ball, allowing it to fall for a single, and then misplayed it while trying to field to let two runs score. Flores picked up another RBI single later in the game.
