Buffalo Bisons 2 – Syracuse Chiefs 4

Pat Misch was absolutely dealing when he was removed for a pinch hitter. Through six innings he had given up two runs (one earned) one seven hits, while throwing just 71 pitches! The move to pull him had a positive immediate impact for Tim Teufel, but the move would came back to bite him in the butt. Dale Thayer was brought in to replace Misch and gave up two solo homeruns in the 7th innings that would decide the game despite the fact he also struckout the side in the inning.

In the top of the 7th the Bisons loaded the bases, but there were two outs on the pitcher’s spot was due up in the order. This is what put Teufel in a sticky situation. He made the decision to pull his starter and sent up Luis Hernandez to pinch hit. Hernandez delivered a single that scored two runs to tie the game. Can’t really blame him that much as the offense was stagnant for the rest of the game and they needed to get going, the bullpen just didn’t execute.

Zach Lutz made his return from the DL and was the one who committed the error to allow the unearned run against Misch.

Binghamton Mets 7 – Portland Sea Dogs 6

Jeurys Familia finally earned his first Double-A win, but the bullpen made it interesting. Familia showed very little rust following his 15-day layoff in between starts and was dominant early on, allowing just a walk and hit through the first three innings. He did walk two batters in the 4th and allowed two singles in the 5th as he appeared to tire out a bit, but worked his way out of the trouble. The Sea Dogs immediately began their comeback once Familia was out of the Game, posting a run in the 6th and then scoring three runs, all with two outs, in the 7th off Erik Turgeon. Josh Stinson worked a scoreless 8th and then got to come out for the 9th with the B-Mets still up by three—not a wise decision. He allowed a leadoff double, two singles, and left with the the game within two runs and runners on the corners. Rhiner Cruz came in, plunked the first batter to load the bases, and then walked the next man to make it a one run game with the bases still loaded and no one out. He got back-to-back strikeouts swinging and then an easy fly to salvage the mess.

The B-Mets put up all seven runs and eight of their 11 hits in a huge 2nd inning. Allan Dykstra broke the ice with a leadoff homerun and then things kind of snowballed. They added three more runs on a walk and three singles before recording an out and then scored three more on three consecutive singles before the inning ended. They were pretty lifeless after that, which allowed the Sea Dogs starter to go five innings despite that inning.

St. Lucie Mets 5 – Fort Myers Miracle 9

With every start that passes I believe even more and more Scott Moviel needs to be moved into the pen ASAP. He is getting hit hard period, but even harder the second time around the order. He got to two outs quickly in the 3rd inning, but once the batters who had already saw him came up the inning went bad when Moviel gave up three straight singles and a three-run homerun. He got out of the inning, but was done after that. Eric Niesen was bad again in relief and Nick Carr had a rough going in his first game in a week.

The Miracle were actually lucky the Mets only scored three runs in the 3rd inning. Five straight men reached to open the inning, which was capped off by a Stefan Welch doubled before three straight outs by some of the team’s best prospects (Wilmer Flores, Cory Vaughn, and Cesar Puello) ended it. Those same three started a rally in the 8th inning when all three walked to open the inning. Francisco Pena singled in a run and another scored on a groundout, but their late inning comeback didn’t fully amount.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6 – Rome Braves 5

The 4th inning was an inning of peaks and valleys for defense. Yohan Almonte was doing his thing and had faced just one over the minimum and then he gave up a single and Aderlin Rodriguez committed a fielding error to allow two men to reach. He got an out, but then gave up a three-run bomb and a double. He got another out that should have been the end of the inning, if not for the Rodriguez error, and in the next at-bat he gave up a single and the runner scored easily because Darrell Ceciliani fumbled the ball and couldn’t make a throw home. Almonte gave up another single, but this time it went to Rafael Fernandez who threw the runner out at home to end the inning. Hamilton Bennett forced the game to go to extras when he allowed a two-out single in the 9th to score the tying run. It could have been worse had Fernandez not picked up another outfield assist by throwing out a runner trying to go first to third.

Darrell Ceciliani scored the first run for the Gnats on a triple by Wilfredo Tovar. Joe Bonfe came around to score on his leadoff triple in the 4th and Aderlin Rodriguez took his turn to get into the action by driving in Tovar and Fernandez with a double in the 5th. Tovar led the 10th off with a triple and Fernandez tried to bunt him over, but the third baseman threw the ball into right field and Tovar tried to come all the way around to score, but was called out at home. Fernandez had moved up to third base on the play and later in the inning would came in to score on a walk-off two-out single by Albert Cordero, who has quietly been performing much better lately.
