Buffalo Bisons 2 – Scranton/WB Yankees 3

After three consecutive subpar performances Chris Schwinden rebounded with an excellent outing, allowing just two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. The first run of the game scored in the 2nd inning on a two-out double to score a baserunner from first base. He then allowed a a solo homerun in the 5th inning, but left with the game tied. John Lujan got five straight outs in relief before allowing a solo homerun with two outs in the top of the 9th.

Raul Chavez‘s two-out, two-RBI that scored Josh Satin and Fernando Perez was all the offense. Ruben Tejada advanced all the way to third base in the bottom of the 9th as the tying run, but as Jesus Feliciano came up to pinch hit he grounded out to end the game.

Binghamton Mets 2 – Portland Sea Dogs 5

I am bored with Tobi Stoner so from now on I will just glance over his starts. He stunk it up and allowed five runs on nine hits in just 5.1 innings. Rhiner Cruz actually didn’t walk anyone in relief, although he did throw a wild pitch. Josh Stinson has now been successful dating back seven relief appearances.

According to Adam Rubin the reason Jordany Valdespin was removed from the game was because of illness and he was not injured or being called up. He did pick up his 24th double before leaving. In the 7th inning Niuman Romero drove in Eric Campbell, who had doubled earlier, with a two-out single. Juan Lagares picked up a single to make his average through five games an even .500 and recorded an outfield assist. Seems like everyone got promoted right as I went away.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Matt Den Dekker (1-for-5, 2 K)
  • Reese Havens (1-for-4, BB, K)
  • Jordany Valdespin (1-for-2, 2B)

St. Lucie Mets 7 – Daytona Cubs 2

John Church got his first start of the season and pitched effectively over five innings. Church allowed a run to score on three singles in the 2nd inning, but picked up a double play to get out of a jam. The Mets couldn’t have asked for much more out of him. Michael Powers allowed a solo homerun in his inning first inning of work. Josh Edgin pitched two perfect innings out of the pen.

Cesar Puello‘s brilliance continued as he belted his 9th homerun of the season in the 8th inning. On the flipside, the increased power he has shown doesn’t really make up for the enormous drop off in steals. Now with all that said, by seasons end he may have overtaken Wilmer Flores as the best of “the big three” international signings from 2007. Pedro Zapata did a great job at the top of the order coming around to score on a leadoff double in the 1st inning and then getting the big five run 3rd inning started with a leadoff double. In that inning Puello singled and somehow came all the way around to score on an error by the center fielder. Must have been some error.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Wilmer Flores (2-for-4, BB)
  • Jefry Marte (0-for-4, 2 RBI)
  • Cory Vaughn (1-for-4, R, K)
  • Cesar Puello (2-for-4, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI)
  • Josh Edgin (2 IP, 2 SO, 3:0 GO:AO)

Stars of the Game: 1. Cesar Puello (32pts) 2. Pedro Zapata (30pts) 3.Wilmer Flores (48pts)

Brooklyn Cyclones 6 – Connecticut Tigers 9

Jeff Walters got hit hard. He gave up five runs on a pair of solo homers, a triple, double, and two singles. Eric Beaulac has settled in and has been much better in his rehab games lately. Danny Muno! Two more hits including his 2nd homerun of the season. Richard Lucas had two extra-base hits, Javier Rodriguez walked four times, Travis Taijeron reached three times, and the offense still couldn’t overcome the poor pitching.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):
