Buffalo Bisons 3 – Syracuse Chiefs 2

Despite issuing five walks, none of them came back to hurt Miguel Batista and he pitched very effectively. He allowed just to runs to score on a pair of sac flies. John Lujan and Dale Thayer held down the fort in relief with Thayer picking up the win after throwing a perfect inning. In the 1st inning Jesus Feliciano was able to advance to third base because of an error and wound up scoring on a groundout because of it. Jordany Valdespin played a big role in his second Triple-A game with a two-out RBI in the 8th to tie things up. It was Zach Lutz with the walk off double to drive in Val Pascucci for the win.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Jordany Valdespin (1-for-4, RBI)
  • Josh Satin (1-for-4, K)
  • Zach Lutz (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, 2 K)

Binghamton Mets 5 – Trenton Thunder 8

It is never a good sign when your team puts up 15 hits and steal loses by three runs. Brandon Moore was part of that problem. In his five innings of work he allowed 10 baserunners and had four of them come around to score. He did still leave with the lead intact. Erik Turgeon was beat up for four runs in just three innings to blow the game. As I said above, the offense did have 15 hits, but they were just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. That is going to hurt you. In the 2nd inning Kai Gronauer drove in one with a double and Raul Reyes picked up a pair of RBIs with his single. Jon Malo contributed a two-run homer in the 5th. However, despite managing eight baserunners over the next four innings they couldn’t get any runs across. Everyone had a hit except Michael Fisher.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Juan Lagares (2-for-5, K)
  • Reese Havens (2-for-4, BB)
  • Michael Fisher (0-for-5, 2 K)

St. Lucie Mets 14 – Jupiter Hammerheads 6

This happens to many times that Darin Gorski is listed as the probable, I see the score is not good, and then it turns out to be Scott Moviel. This is not good news for Moviel, but it is always a big relief to me. Moviel didn’t walk any, but allowed eight hits that caused the five runs allowed. He faced the minimum in the 1st inning and then gave up a run(s) in every other inning he pitched. Kyle Allen did a terrific job in long relief. He finished the game after Moviel only last four innings to pick up the one. Although he only struckout one, he only walked one and that is of greater importance to me.

An absolute offensive outburst. The Mets jumped all over the Hammerheads starter for eight runs. Wilmer Flores got that started with a sac fly in the 1st and then Rylan Sandoval doubled home one and Cesar Puello tripled in a pair in the 3rd. Later in the game Jefry Marte, Flores, and Stefan Welch went back-to-back-to-back with homeruns.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Cesar Puello (2-for-2, 3B, RBI)
  • Jefry Marte (1-for-2, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB)
  • Wilmer Flores (1-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI)

Savannah Sand Gnats 5 – Greenville Drive 3

Angel Cuan‘s good season continued with an impressive start. He tied a season-high with nine strikeouts, while allowing just two runs over six innings. Both runs scored on a double in the 1st inning. Jet Butler chased home the first run for the Gnats with a single in the 2nd and Darrell Ceciliani followed later in the inning with a two-out RBI single later in the inning. The Gnats put together four straight singles in the 4th inning to bring home a run before recording an out and then Wilfredo Tovar drove in two with a single.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Darrell Ceciliani (2-for-4, RBI, K)
  • Wilfredo Tovar (1-for-4, 2 RBI)
  • Albert Cordero (0-for-4, 2 K)
  • Angel Cuan (W, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 SO, 4:2 GO:AO)
  • Chase Huchingson (2 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 2 SO, 2:1 GO:AO)

Brooklyn Cyclones 3 – Batavia Muckdogs 1

Wowsers. How much more impressive can Jack Leathersich be in his early showings? He recorded five of six outs in game 1 via the strikeout and earned his first professional save.

  • Javier Rodriguez (0-for-3, RBI)

Kingsport Mets 4 – Pulaski Mariners 1

The fact that Domingo Tapia has recorded such few strikeouts is very disappointing. With his fastball alone he should be able to strikeout a batter per inning.

Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

  • Camden Maron (2-for-4, RBI, K)
  • Julio Concepcion (1-for-4, K)
  • Greg Pron (1-for-3, R, K)
