In what has been an offseason filled with a roller coaster of emotions, the Mets announced Wednesday that they have extended the contract of general manager Sandy Alderson.

Alderson joined the Mets after the 2010 season, succeeding Omar Minaya as the 12th general manager in franchise history. He signed an extension in 2014 to remain with the team through 2017.

“I’m excited that Sandy will continue to lead the organization,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon.

After back-to-back playoff appearances, that included a World Series run in 2015, the Mets finished an injury-riddled 2017 season with a record of 70-92.

“I feel that we have some unfinished business,” said Alderson. “Spring Training is around the corner and our quest to return to the postseason will continue.”

Terms on the deal were not disclosed and speculation is rampant that the Mets only gave him a one year deal.
