The Mets (2-1) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (0-4) this afternoon at Citi Field by a score of 7-2. The reigning National League Champions were introduced in front of the Flushing Faithful as the National League pennant banner was flown. The Mets are now 35-20 all-time in Home Openers and 5-3 at Citi Field.

Pitching:
Jacob deGrom got the start for the Amazin’s and pitched well, striking out six Phillies and allowing just one run on five hits over a span of six innings.
DeGrom left the game after only 76 pitches due to back tightness. The young ace dealt with back issues during Spring Training and it flared up during his start this afternoon, and his velocity was down to only 93. We will keep you up to date as more news comes in.
Jim Henderson, who impressed greatly in Tuesday’s game against the Royals, pitched the seventh inning and dominated yet again, striking out two batters in a clean inning of work.
Hansel Robles didn’t fare well for the eighth as he surrendered a run, but Jerry Blevins bailed him out to complete the inning. Antonio Bastardo pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the win for the Amazins.

Offense:
Jacob deGrom helped his own cause in the second inning, as he drove in a run with a ground out to get the Mets on the board first.
After the Phillies knotted up the game in the sixth, the Mets answered right back in the bottom half of the frame, with RBI hits from Neil Walker and Michael Conforto.
The Mets tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning, as they busted the game open to a score of 7-1, with contributions from the aforementioned Walker and Conforto, as well as Travis d’Arnaud.
On Deck:
The Mets will look to earn the series victory tomorrow night, as Long Island native Steven Matz gets the ball for the Mets, and is opposed by Vincent Velasquez. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
