According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the New York Mets have informed Jay Bruce they will exercise his $13 million option for the 2017 season.

Bruce came to the Mets on August 1st from in a trade that sent infielder Dilson Herrera and left-handed pitcher Max Wotell to the Cincinnati Reds.

The left-handed hitting outfielder batted a disappointing .219/.294/.391 with five doubles, eight home runs and 19 RBI in 187 plate appearances with the Mets.

Overall for the 2016 season, he hit .250/.309/.506 with 27 doubles, 33 home runs and 99 RBI in 147 games combined with the Reds and Mets.

As previously reported, the Mets will pick up the league minimum 2017 option on Jose Reyes and give Jon Niese a buyout instead of exercising his $10 million option.
