Mets Cubs

Matt Ehalt of The Record reports that the Mets say they have the six largest attendance increase in major league baseball at 7.72 percent overall, with weekend games up 16.38 percent as well.

The Mets are averaging 29,284 fans per game at Citi Field, up from 26,860 fans per game in 2014.

As I reported last week, not only is attendance up, but ticket sales are up significantly as are concession sales.

Additionally, SNY TV viewership is reportedly at a record high and the SNY Blog Network is enjoying record earnings.

Meanwhile payroll remains capped at around $100 million, the bottom third of baseball, and last week Sandy Alderson told reporters he has enough budget for one midseason addition without mentioning dollars.

Since 2011, the Mets general manager has often defended ownership, stating that payroll was a function of attendance and ticket sales. I’m interested in seeing how this function all plays out this season and next.
