The Mets (21-16) were defeated and swept by the Colorado Rockies (19-18) this evening at Coors Field by a score of 4-3. In the process, the Mets dropped their fourth straight game.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom got the start for the Mets, and settled for a no decision, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while walking three as well as striking out just three.

After the Mets took the lead in the top of the second, deGrom immediately gave the run right back on an RBI single from D.J. LeMahieu to score Carlos Gonzalez.

DeGrom kept the Rockies quiet until the sixth inning when Carlos Gonzalez broke out of his long home run drought, and launched his fifth home run of the year to center field to cut the Mets lead at the time to 3-2.

In the seventh inning, deGrom walked D.J. LeMahieu, who subsequently advanced to second on a wild pitch. After striking out Dustin Garneau, deGrom was relieved by Jim Henderson, who quickly served up a two run shot to Ryan Raburn, which would prove to be the turning point of the game and gave the Rockies a 4-3 lead.

Henderson finished off the inning, but the damage had been done, as this would prove to be a deficit the Mets could not come back from.

Offense:

Yoenis Cespedes hit his 12th homer of the year in the second inning to put the Mets on the board first.

After the Rockies tied the game up, the Mets answered right back in the third inning, scoring two runs to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.

In the eighth inning after the Rockies had taken a 4-3 lead, Juan Lagares pinched hit for Michael Conforto and laced a double, which was followed by an intentional walk to Yoenis Cespedes.

Lucas Duda was next to bat with the tying and go ahead runs on base and only one out. Duda nubbed one to third, which ended up in a double play, because Lagares allegedly ran outside the baseline dodging a tag, which ended the inning. Two days, two awful calls.

The Mets could not form a comeback in the ninth, and head back to New York with their tails between their legs, and a huge series on the horizon against the first place Nationals.

On deck:

The Mets start that series against Washington on Tuesday with Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 2.53 ERA) taking on Max Scherzer (4-2, 4.15 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
