The Mets dropped a pair of split-squad games this afternoon against the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros.

Red Sox 4, Mets 1:

Logan Verrett started the for the Mets, and tossed four scoreless innings allowing only two hits, and striking out one.

Sean Gilmartin relieved Verrett in the fifth and surrendered two runs and four hits, while striking out four over the span of three innings.

Erik Goeddel also allowed a pair of runs in the eighth, his lone inning of work.

The Mets only run came in the fifth inning on the strength of an RBI single off the bat of Matt Reynolds.

Eric Campbell, Kevin Plawecki, Travis Taijeron, and Patrick Biondi also added hits for the Amazin’s.

Astros 8, Mets 5:

Matt Harvey started the game for the Mets against the Astros this afternoon, and was roughed up for six runs on seven hits, while striking out two and walking four over the span of three innings.

Beck Wheeler relieved Harvey in the fourth and allowed one run and walked three in an inning of work to give the Astros a commanding lead of 7-0.

The Astros tacked on another run against Antonio Bastardo in the seventh. The lefty now has a 7.00 ERA so far this spring.

Jim Henderson continued his strong spring, pitching a scoreless eighth, and striking out two.

The Mets were held off the scoreboard until the eighth inning, where they put up a five spot with RBI hits from Jeff McNeil, John Mora, Dominic Smith and Phillip Evans.

However, the late inning surge would prove to not matter much, as the Astros held on to win the game.

The Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow afternoon at Tradition Field. Noah Syndergaard will start for the Mets and will take on Michael Wacha. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
