The Mets need an upgrade at third base. Just like the trade deadline their main target should be Kris Bryant.

Good thing the Mets are talking with agent Scott Boras about the 29-year-old right-hander at the GM meetings this week, the New York Post reports.

Led by Sandy Alderson, the Mets front office group in San Diego will convene without a president of baseball operations or a general manager. Boras boasts a corral of high-profile clients including Bryant and Michael Conforto. Additionally, Boras represents free agents Corey Seager, Max Scherzer, Marcus Semien, Nick Castellanos, and Carlos Rodon.

Bryant can play all the corners defensively – first base, third base, left field, right field -at an average or above-average level. He was a Mets target at the deadline before they shifted focus to Javier Baez. Instead, Bryant was shipped off to San Francisco where he got on base 34% of the time with seven home runs and 22 runs batted in. He finished his season with 25 home runs, 73 RBIs, and a .835 OPS.

Bryant’s midseason trade made him ineligible to receive the qualifying offer and the Mets won’t have to surrender a compensatory draft pick if they do sign him.
