The Mets announced on Thursday that infielder Ty Kelly has been designated for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster for lefty Jerry Blevins, whose one-year deal became official today.

Kelly, 28, was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 13th round of the 2009 first-year player draft, but didn’t break into the big leagues until he made his MLB debut with the Mets in 2016.

In 39 games and 71 plate appearances for the Mets this past season, Kelly hit .241/.352/.345 with one homer and seven runs batted in.

Kelly is a career .280/.381/.380 hitter across eight minor league seasons spending a majority of time at second and third base, with over 1,000 innings spent in left field as well.

Kelly could be appealing to a team that is looking for a utility man, as he appeared at every position minus shortstop, catcher and pitcher in 2016 for the Mets.
