The Mets just announced that they optioned Dillon Gee to minor league camp. They also reassigned righties Boof Bonser and Ryota Igarashi, lefthanded pitcher Taylor Tankersley, catchers Dusty Ryan and Raul Chavez, infielder Russ Adams and outfielder Jason Pridie.

I guessed them all except for Dusty Ryan. I guess they have no more split squad games on the schedule. He was cut instead of Justin Turner.

And like I said earlier this morning, both Castillo and Perez remain.

Here is the weirdest thing – Not one of the players in the second base competition were cut after days of Alderson and Collins suggesting that the field would be narrowed.

After a brief analysis of the roster, I would expect the following players to be cut from Mets camp today and tomorrow.

Pitchers – Boof Bonser (5.40 ERA), Ryota Igarashi (7.20 ERA), Taylor Tankersley (12.27 ERA) and Dillon Gee (5.40 ERA).

Catchers – Raul Chavez (.154 BA)

Infielders – Justin Turner (.276 BA), Russ Adams (.276 BA)

Outfielders – Jason Pridie (.150)

That’s eight players, and Alderson said he could cut up to nine. Blaine Boyer could also get cut instead of Gee, but he’s having a solid spring and I feel they will keep him around a little longer to see what they have in him.

As for Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez, I think both of them will survive today’s round of cuts, but if I had to choose one of them I would say Castillo has one foot out of the door.

There was just too much drama surrounding Castillo this past week with one report suggesting that Collins wants him out despite the fact he is outperforming the rest of the field at second base.

I believe Perez will get at least two more appearances as a reliever before they make a final decision, but in the end they will release him despited his bloated contract.
