The Mets are considering having 33-year-old Jose Reyes take reps in the outfield, Marc Carig of Newsday said on Twitter.
Reyes has predominantly played third base this season, where he holds a .932 fielding percentage, but has also appeared at his natural shortstop for 82 2/3 innings, holding a better .979 fielding percentage.
Altogether, Reyes has committed five errors this season in 37 games.
Carig said, however, that Reyes hasn’t done any work in the outfield in several weeks, but with the injuries piling up, the Mets may be looking to increase versatility from the veteran.
At the dish this season, Reyes is batting at a dismal .182/.265/.314 clip, but has slowly picked it up as of late, slowly raising his average since the end of April.
