According to the Star-Ledger, Mets officials are considering playing an exhibition game next spring in Las Vegas before the 2013 season begins.

Yesterday, the Mets announced that Wally Backman will return as manager, this time for the Las Vegas 51’s, the new Triple-A affiliate for the organization.

Backman led the Buffalo Bisons to a 67-76 record in 2012, a last place finish in the International League’s North Division, but nonetheless has agreed to continue managing the club in 2013.

What I wonder is, with Collins on the last year of his deal, if Backman is staying around for the shot at the managerial position down the road in Flushing.
