Recap

Jon Niese has himself another good start. He only went six innings and allowed seven hits, but kept the Giants to only three runs. He walks two and strikes out five. Niese continues to prove himself to his contract with another start that was not helped by much hitting. He walks away with a no decision. His inability to go deep into games is still discerning, however.

Ramirez and Rauch combine for two innings with a hit each. Byrdak keeps it at a one-run game in the ninth with a no-hit inning of work. Francisco did not have as much success as he gives up a run in an inning of work, and gets the loss. Another closer that can’t work outside of non-close situations.

Niewenhuis gets his first start against a lefty starter and hits a solo homerun into left in the fifth inning. He was not done impressing as Niewenhuis made an impressive diving catch in the eighth to rob an extra-base hit. He has been a very good positive for this team on both sides of the game.

Not much offense for the Mets as before the ninth it was only two runs with solo shots from Kirk and Bay. A ninth inning RBI single from Josh Thole to tie the game and bring the game into extras. Despite great effort from the Mets, it was not enough to get the win.
