The New York Mets have a ton of holes to fill this offseason though the recent play behind the plate by Travis d’Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki could allow them to focus on other positions besides catcher.

On Wednesday night in the Mets 7-1 win over the Atlanta Braves, Travis d’Arnaud drove in three runs and Kevin Plawecki was on base three times.

Mets catchers lead the majors this September with 28 runs batted in and are tied with the Cleveland Indians for the lead with eight home runs. They are slashing .316/.370/.643 during that span with 163 wRC+ and are only striking out 13% of the time.

Plawecki, with a changed stance, has been hitting well since rejoining the Mets in August. In 82 plate appearances since August 19, Plawecki is hitting .296/.390/.479 with four doubles, three home runs, nine walks and 11 strikeouts.

Plawecki has also increased his versatility by playing first base twice this week, where he previously had experience in college and the minors.

D’Arnaud has been on fire recently too, hitting .305/.354/.695 with six home runs and 19 RBI in the month of September. He has set career highs this season with 16 home runs, 57 RBI and has posted a 1.0 bWAR.

As a whole, Mets catchers in 2017 have hit 27 home runs and knocked in 91 runs.
