The Mets announced before their game on Thursday that they’ve selected the contract of right-handed reliever Trevor Hildenberger and placed Dellin Betances on the injured list with a shoulder impingement.

Betances allowed one run in his 2021 season debut on Wednesday, in that outing his average fastball velocity was 91.8 MPH. That number is down from his 93.6 average with the Mets last season and significantly down from his Yankees days.

Hildenberger, sporting a funky sidearm delivery, recorded 10 outs this Spring with nine of them coming via the strikeout. He allowed only one run in that span. He was added to the 40-man roster, which had one open spot.

The former Twins pitcher joins a bullpen that struggled in the Mets first series allowed five earned runs over three games. Check out the interview we did with Trevor before spring training.
