Phillies vs. Mets

Francisco Lindor drove in his 82nd run of the season in the Mets’ 6-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at home. With the RBI, Lindor passed José Reyes (81, 2006) for the most single-season RBI by a Mets shortstop in franchise history.

Trevor Williams tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Chris Bassitt. It was the 7th time this season that Williams recorded at least two scoreless innings out of the pen. That’s the most by a Mets reliever since Seth Lugo recorded 16 such appearances in 2019.

The Mets recorded back-to-back shutouts against the Phillies for the first time since 2010. The Mets recorded back-to-back-to-back shutouts against the Phillies from May 25 to May 27, 2010.

Mets vs. Braves

Jeff McNeil went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in the Mets’ 13-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves in the opening game of the four-game series. It was the 10th time in McNeil’s major league career that he recorded 4+ hits in a game. McNeil is one of ten Mets with double-digit 4+ hit games in franchise history.

Darin Ruf pitched in mop-up duty and tossed two scoreless innings on just 14 pitches (10 strikes). Ruf is the only position player in Mets history to toss two scoreless innings.

Mets vs. Braves

Charlie Morton tossed 6.2 scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts against the Mets in the Braves’ 5-0 win. At 38 years, 277 days old, Morton became the second-oldest pitcher to not allow a run while striking out 12+ Mets in a start. Randy Johnson is the oldest at 40 years, 340 days old (August 15, 2004).

Mets vs. Braves

Brett Baty made his major league debut and homered in his first at-bat. He became just the fifth Met to homer in his first career at-bat, joining Benny Ayala, Mike Fitzgerald, Kazuo Matsui, and Mike Jacobs.

Along with his 2-run home run in the second, Baty reached on a fielder’s choice off left-hander Tyler Matzek in the sixth. The exit velocity on Baty’s batted ball was 113 mph. He became the 7th left-handed hitter to have a batted ball with an exit velocity of 113+ mph against a lefty pitcher this season.

Edwin Díaz struck out two in his scoreless inning pitched in the eighth. It was the 34th time this season that Díaz struck out at least two batters in an appearance. Only Armando Benítez (40, 1999) and Seth Lugo (35, 2019) have recorded more such relief appearances in a single season.

Mets vs. Braves

Jacob deGrom made his 202nd career start and struck out nine batters in the Mets’ 3-2 loss to the Braves. It was the 78th time in deGrom’s career that he struck out 9+ batters; the most by any pitcher in their first 202 career games. Yu Darvish is second with 72.

Jacob deGrom threw a slider to Matt Olson that was clocked at 96.1 miles-per-hour in the sixth. That’s the fastest slider deGrom has thrown in his major league career.

Mets vs. Phillies

Pete Alonso hit his 30th home run of the season with a two-run shot in the third in the Mets’ 7-2 win in the opening game of a four-game series against the Phillies on the road. He became the fifth Met with at least three seasons of 30+ home runs, joining: Mike Piazza (4x), Howard Johnson (3X), Darryl Strawberry (3X), and Dave Kingman (3X).

Pete Alonso drove in his 100th run of the season, becoming the eighth different Mets player with multiple seasons of at least 100 RBI.

Pete Alonso recorded his 34th multi extra-base hit game of his career. Among all time Mets, that tied Tommie Agee and Bobby Bonilla for the 13th-most such games in franchise history.

Brett Baty went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. In his first three games, Baty collected three hits and four RBI. Among Mets, only Mike Jacobs (2005) and Steven Matz (2015) have posted those numbers in their first three big league games.

With his three RBI in the game, Pete Alonso has driven in 22 against the Phillies this season. That’s tied for the most RBI by a Mets player against the Phillies in a single season with Mike Piazza in 2002.

Mets vs. Phillies (Game One)

Trevor Williams started for the Mets in the first game of a doubleheader against the Phillies in the Mets’ 8-2 win. He tossed four scoreless innings and extended his scoreless innings streak to 24 innings. That’s the longest scoreless innings streak by a Mets pitcher this season.

Starling Marte went 3-for-4 with a walk, RBI, and run scored. It was Marte’s 400th career multi-hit game of his major league career. He’s the 37th Dominican-born player to record 400 or more multi-hit games.

The Mets won their 13th game against the Phillies this season. The last time the Mets won 13 or more games against the Phillies was in 2015.

Mets vs. Phillies (Game Two)

David Peterson struck out six over his 4.2 innings pitched in the Mets’ 4-1 loss in the second game of the doubleheader. Over his last eight starts, Peterson has racked up 60 strikeouts; the most by a left-handed starter on the Mets since Johan Santana in 2009.

Heading into Sunday’s finale, Jeff McNeil has recorded six Outs Above Average (OAA) at second base. That’s the fifth-most OAA by a second baseman this season.
