The only thing that could have put a damper on the Mets 9-3 win over the Kansas City Royals in Game 3 of the World Series would have been a poor outing from the bullpen. Last night, Noah Syndergaard was far from perfect early on, but righted the ship and finished strong, going six innings and allowing just three runs.

The Mets bullpen took over in the seventh and provided the team with three perfect innings as they cruised to a crucial victory over the Royals, separating the two teams by just a game in the series.

Addison Reed, Tyler Clippard. and Jeurys Familia combined to allow no runs and no hits in the three innings they worked. It was good to see after the bullpen surrendered four runs in a 7-1 loss in Game 2 in Kansas City.

Going into the series, it was the bullpen of the Royals that was favored in this series over the bullpen of the Mets. But last night it was the Mets bullpen that shined and was virtually flawless. Meanwhile the Royals bullpen was ineffective and couldn’t keep it close, giving up four runs in six innings of work. All of those runs were charged to Franklin Morales, who the Mets had yet to see in the series thus far.

Jeurys Familia showed no signs of Alex Gordon‘s home run carrying over and affecting him in this game. He faced the minimum and retired all three batters, while striking out Gordon for the second out of the inning.

“For me it was great. to get my confidence back by trying to throw one inning, make my pitches, and do the best that I can,” said Familia.

“I understand this game I have a short memory when I have a bad day. I just try to move forward and I know tomorrow is a new day and I can do my job better.”

In the process the Mets were able to rest guys like Jon Niese, Bartolo Colon, and Hansel Robles, should they need them in tonight’s Game 4. The Royals meanwhile used six pitchers out of their pen.
