The Mets vs. Braves matchup at Citi Field Friday night is postponed due to inclement weather, the team announced. They said the game would be made up at a later date. With the injuries the team has now, it might benefit the Mets to re-schedule the game in the last half of the season.

Luis Rojas said Taijuan Walker, who was scheduled to come off the injured list and start today’s game, is now slated to start Saturday’s game. The team hasn’t decided who will start Sunday’s game–it’ll be between David Peterson and Jacob deGrom.

The team has now reached double-digit postponements less than two months into the 2021 season. (Seven because of weather, and three because of a COVID outbreak with the Nationals.)

Rain was in the forecast for most, if not all, of Friday night, and the weather the rest of Memorial Day weekend in New York City doesn’t look that much better.

For fans with tickets, the team said the tickets can be exchanged for a similar price and location at any game this season except the series versus the Yankees from September 10-12.

The Mets are coming up on an extremely daunting part of the schedule between now and the All-Star break in July and rainouts may make it worse.

There are two doubleheaders scheduled for June (and likely a third should the teams choose to make up this game when the Braves come to Citi next month). The team starts a nine-game road trip to the West Coast and Baltimore on Monday, then they come home and have an off day on June 10. From June 11 until July 12, the team is slated to play 32 games in 31 days.

Despite all the ups-and-downs, the Mets are 24-20 and in first place by 2.5 games in the NL East.
