For the second day in the row, the divisional matchup between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets at Citi Field in Flushing, New York has been postponed due to rain. The Mets announced the contest will be made up Monday, May 1 as a part of a single admission doubleheader with the first game beginning at 1:10 pm ET. This is the second-straight game that has been postponed, and the third straight that has been effected by rain. The contest Friday, which the Braves won 4-0, was shortened to five innings.

With the new schedule, the Mets are now on pace to play 21 games in 21 days. This includes the doubleheader and only one off day. A compact schedule like such will certainly put stress on a rotation which will soon includes a 38-year-old, a 40-year-old, and a first year major leaguer (Kodai Senga). It’ll be interesting to see if the Mets will go to a six-man rotation at any points.

Another impact of the recent rain delays is the effect it has on currently suspended Mets’ pitcher Max Scherzer. So far, Scherzer as served eight games of his 10-game suspension. Given the Mets are making Sunday’s game up as a doubleheader, there is no more ill-effects due to the rain postponement today, unlike yesterday’s postponement. He will still be eligible to return on Tuesday against the Tigers in Detroit.
