After Monday morning’s signing of Max Scherzer, the Mets aren’t close to being done, and they have checked in on a couple of southpaws in Carlos Rodón and Yusei Kikuchi.

Rodón is coming off a career year with the Chicago White Sox in which the lefty made the All-Star team. The left-hander went 13-5 with a career best 2.37 ERA while striking out 185 batters in 132 2/3 inning pitched, while posting the best WHIP of his career at 0.957, and his best FIP at 2.65. Oh, and he also finished fifth in the American League Cy Young award voting.

Kikuchi also made the All-Star team to represent the Seattle Mariners. While his 4.41 ERA isn’t all that attractive, he did strike out 163 batters in 157 innings with a 3.85 xFIP, 1.318 WHIP, and a career-best 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

The Mets are wheeling and dealing, and with a little over 24 hours until a potential lockout happens as we write this, they seem to be wanting to add another arm to their rotation.
