The New York Mets announced on Friday afternoon they’ve signed right-handed reliever Jeurys Familia. It is a three-year deal worth $30 million according to previous reports.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mets will pay Familia $6 million in 2019, $11M in 2020 ($1M payable on 1/15/22) and $11M in 2021 ($1M payable on 7/1/22).

He can also receive a $500,000 bonus for 50 games finished and another $1M if traded. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus.

Familia, 29, was traded by the Mets back in July to the Oakland Athletics for right-handed reliever Bobby Wahl, third base prospect Will Toffey and $1 million in international slot money.

The former Mets closer finished the 2018 season with a combined 3.13 ERA, 2.65 FIP, 1.22 WHIP, 18 saves and 1.5 bWAR. He struck out 83 compared to 28 walks in 72 innings between the A’s and Mets.

Familia was originally signed by the Mets in 2007, and made his major league debut for the team in September of 2012.

Familia will likely slide into the setup role before recently acquired closer Edwin Diaz, and form a strong bullpen trio that also includes Seth Lugo
