In a team statement released on Sunday afternoon, the New York Mets officially announced Jared Porter as the team’s new general manager.

Porter, 40, spent the past four seasons in Arizona as the Diamondbacks’ senior vice president and director of professional scouting.

Prior to landing in the desert in November 2016, Porter was a member of four World Series-winning front offices (Boston, 2004, 2007, 2013; Cubs, 2016).

Mets team president Sandy Alderson addressed the hire, per the team release.

“Jared has proven himself at every level and in every position he has held, earning respect from his peers throughout baseball,” Alderson said. “He is deeply knowledgeable in all aspects of the game and has worked with several accomplished baseball executives. Jared is prepared for this next challenge.”

Porter himself thanked Alderson and Mets owner Steve Cohen in his own prepared statement.

“I’d like to thank Steve Cohen and Sandy Alderson for this incredible opportunity,” said Porter. “I’m extremely grateful for the trust they’ve shown in me. I’m excited to join the community, get to work, and help build a collaborative and sustainable baseball operation and culture for the New York Mets.”
