The New York Mets proudly introduced their newest addition in a formal press conference today. Top ace pitcher Johan Santana is now officially a Met and very happy to be representing the great city of New York.

General manager Omar Minaya spoke first announcing, "It is an historic day today for the New York Mets franchise." After a few encouraging thoughts, Minaya welcomed Santana to the stage as they presented the new pitcher with his #57 jersey.

The press had a heyday with a small photo shoot with Santana, Minaya, Willie Randolph, David Wright and Jeff Wilpon, followed by a small speech from Santana. He thanked the Mets management and gladly expressed,  "It’s a pleasure for me and my family to become members of the Mets family." The media then was allowed to ask Santana questions.

Johan Santana signed a 6-year $137.5 million contract on February 1st. He won the Cy Young Award in ’04 and ’06 and has been an All Star for the last three years, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg at what he brings to this team.

Welcome to New York Johan, we will be anxiously awaiting your debut!
