According to Jon Heyman, the Mets and the Texas Rangers are discussing a swap of Matt Harvey for infielder Jurickson Profar. However, he also notes that while they are talking, the Rangers do not like this deal straight up as Harvey is a free agent after this season.

It had been previously reported earlier in the day that the Mets were discussing trades with teams interested in Harvey and Mike Puma reported first that the Mets and Rangers were discussing a deal while Evan Grant speculated that this deal could be a possibility.

Profar at one point was a highly regarded shortstop prospect, but has since struggled to find his way in the majors after being blocked by a crowded Rangers middle infield. He has hit only .229/.309/.329 in his career that has spanned only 206 at-bats.

He also got Tommy-John Surgery in 2014, but nonetheless, Profar is still only 24 years old and could potentially fill the Mets second base position for next season. There is some potential that he could be a change-of-scenery guy as Heyman notes.

Heyman reports that while they are talking, the Rangers do not like this deal straight up as Harvey is a free agent after this season.

Keep refreshing for any more updates.
