The Mets and No. 10 overall draft pick Kumar Rocker, a right-handed pitcher out of Vanderbilt, have agreed to a $6 million signing bonus. The $6M is $1.26M over slot, and Scott Boras, Rocker’s agent, had this to say to The New York Post: “It was about a war to get him [Rocker] down to 10 because we felt the Mets were a good pick for him and a good environment.”
Rocker, heading into the college season, was the consensus No. 1 overall draft pick. The emergence of Jack Leiter had some scouts overlooking Rocker, and Rocker’s not so great outing in the College World Series had him slip on some big boards leading up to the draft. That being said, the Mets being able to select him tenth is quite a win for Steve Cohen’s first draft with the Mets.
The Mets get an absolutely electric arm in Kumar Rocker with the #10 pick.

Rocker is the first college pitcher since 1988 to lead the nation in both wins and strikeouts in the same season, and he also obtains a slider which might be the best pitch in the entire draft. Its ability to break makes it nearly impossible to hit.
