The New York Mets announced on Friday afternoon they’ve officially added outfielder Aaron Altherr to the active roster and optioned left-handed reliever Ryan O’Rourke to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets claimed Altherr off waivers from the Giants on Thursday and designated right-handed reliever Tim Peterson to make room on the 40-man roster.

Altherr, 28, has struggled mightily in 2019 going 1-for-30 with 10 strikeouts combined between the Phillies and Giants. The Giants claimed off waivers on May 11. He’s two years removed from hitting .272/.340/.516 with 24 doubles and 19 homers for the Phillies in 2017.

The athletic former ninth round pick is a solid defender at all three outfield spots. He is out of options.

O’Rourke has thrown 1.1 scoreless innings for the Mets this year in two games.
