wilmer flores

Mets utility infielder Wilmer Flores was activated from the disabled list and is back with the team and in the lineup tonight against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.

Flores is playing third base in place of David Wright, who remains out with neck pain and is expected to miss a couple of more games.

The 24-year old Flores finished his rehab assignment, going 4-for-17 in five games for Double-A Binghamton. He’s expected to platoon with newly acquired James Loney at first base while continuing to cover for Wright when he can’t play.

“I think he’ll be fine there,” Collins said. “He’s gotten maybe not the number of reps on the field that you might want. But he’s played the middle of the infield, so we know he’s got athleticism.”

To make room for Flores, the Mets optioned Matt Reynolds to Triple-A Las Vegas. Reynolds was 1-for-10 during his call-up to the Mets and collected his first MLB hit.

Wilmer Flores played his third rehab game with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, going 0-for-3 with a walk. After playing the first two games at first base, Flores started at second base this.

Flores was initially expected to be activated on Friday, but the Mets want to give him some more at-bats at Double-A. He was hitless in his last two games.

He’s batting third and playing first base for Binghamton on Friday night.

Original Report – May 24

Wilmer Flores began his rehab assignment tonight for the Binghamton Mets and went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles while playing seven innings at first base.

Flores was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 12 after he strained his left hamstring. He is eligible to be activated from the DL on Friday.

Upon his activation, Flores will see plenty of time at first base with the loss of Lucas Duda to the DL with a stress fracture in his lower back. Duda is expected to miss about two months.

Before landing on the DL, Flores was hitting .180 with one home run and two RBIs in 50 at-bats for the Mets.
