The New York Mets welcomed back a key roster cog on Tuesday afternoon, activating second baseman Robinson Cano (torn left hamstring) from the 10-day injured list.

Cano, 36, will not be in the Mets’ lineup versus Max Scherzer and the Nats on Tuesday but will be available off the bench, according to reports.

Over 86 games during his first season in Queens (348 plate appearances), the 14-year MLB veteran is slashing .252/.295/.415 with 10 home runs, 23 doubles, 32 RBIs, and 58 strikeouts.

Cano was slashing .289/.318/.578 with six homers and six doubles over 88 second-half plate appearances before tearing his hamstring in Pittsburgh on August 4, and he hit the IL immediately thereafter.

Many assumed the Dominican native’s season to be all but over after such a substantial injury so late in the season, but, alas, here we are.

We’ll keep you posted with more information as it becomes available.
