The New York Mets announced prior to Tuesday night’s matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field that they’ve activated right-hander Jake Reed and catcher Tomás Nido from the injured list.

Reed was placed on the IL back on August 30 after experiencing right forearm inflammation. The right-hander was sharp in two appearances with the big league team, striking out five and only allowing just two hits.

Nido returned to the team a few weeks ago, and then was placed back on the injured list with the same thumb injury two days later. He recently began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse, and over the past two days he has gone 3-for-7 with a pair of RBI.

Both players were back with the team on Monday, but it was a scheduled day off for the pair so they were not activated until tonight. Nido will return to the starting lineup right away, batting eighth and behind the plate for Marcus Stroman tonight.

In a corresponding roster move, catcher Patrick Mazeika and right-hander Yennsy Diaz have been optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse.

Mazeika filled in admirably, catching almost every day when both Nido and James McCann were on the injured list. He has come through at times but overall has struggled to the tune of a .538 OPS over 36 games this season.

Diaz has actually pitched well in spurts for the big league team this season, though he last pitched in Monday night’s loss to the Cardinals and struggled. The right-hander allowed four runs over 1.1 innings of work.

On the season, Diaz has now pitched to a 5.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and has 21 strikeouts over 25 innings of work. It’s certainly possible we see the 24-year old back with the big league team at some point before the end of the season.
