The Mets are bolstering the bullpen, adding San Francisco Giants right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers, a source told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic on Wednesday. It was not yet known who the Mets would be sending to San Francisco.

The Mets are sending right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell, outfield prospect Drew Gilbert, and José Buttó to the Giants, per Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the NY Post.

Rogers, 34, is 4-3 with a 1.80 ERA and o.86 WHIP across 50 innings pitched for the Giants this season. He has struck out 38 and walked four.

Rogers ranks in, or above, the league’s 99th percentile in the following statistical categories: xERA, average exit velocity, walk rate, barrel rate, and ground-ball rate.

Rogers is a workhorse. He currently leads the league in appearances with 53 and has led the league three times in that category over his seven-year career. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

According to MMO’s Michael Mayer, Gilbert was the 15th-ranked prospect in the Mets system and Tidwell the 19th. Each have not developed how the Mets have hoped.

Gilbert, who has predominantly been playing center field, is slashing .246/.349/.435 (.785 OPS) for Triple-A Syracuse, who play in an extremely hitter-friendly league. He was acquired in the Justin Verlander trade and was once looked upon as a top-100 prospect in baseball. The 24-year-old certainly hasn’t developed as hoped.

Tidwell has 4.10 ERA across 79 innings and 17 games (14 starts) for Triple-A Syracuse. He made his major-league debut with the Mets this season, allowing 23 hits, 15 runs, and 10 walks across 15 innings. He was second-round pick of the Mets in 2022.

Buttó, 27 years old, has a 3.64 ERA across 47 innings of relief this year for the Mets. His 4.27 xERA is an increase compared to seasons past. He finishes his Mets career with a 3.45 ERA across 167 games. Importantly, Buttó did not have any options left and would need to be placed on waivers to be sent down.

The movement of Gilbert, Tidwell, and Buttó clears two 40-man roster spots.
