The Mets have acquired right-handed reliever Vinny Nittoli from the Cubs, per Anthony DiComo of MLB dot com. Nittoli will go on the Mets’ 40-man roster, which currently has two open spots. The 32-year-old does have options and could be sent to Triple-A Syracuse.

It was reported on Thursday that Nittoli was opting out of his minor league deal with the Cubs. The right-hander has a 3.48 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and .221 opponents average in 16 games this season for Triple-A Iowa. In that span, he struck out 22 and walked seven.

Nittoli made his major league debut with the Mariners in 2021, giving up two runs in one inning. The former 25th rounder returned to the majors in 2022 to throw two scoreless innings for the Phillies.

Nittoli throws his four-seamer 92-94 mph with above-average spin. His favorite pitch to throw is a slider that also has above-average spin that he tends to throw more than his fastball. Lastly, he mixes in a curveball rarely.
