After General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen made a flurry of trades this past weekend, the New York Mets 40-Man roster is now full.
Saturday afternoon, outfielder Keon Broxton was added to the roster after being acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for righties Bobby Wahl and Adam Hill, as well as infield prospect Felix Valerio. Wahl was the only player in this deal on the 40-man roster.
Then Sunday afternoon Van Wagenen completed another deal, as he sent minor leaguers Ross Adolph, Luis Santana, and Scott Manea to the Houston Astros for infielder J.D. Davis.
Moments later, Van Wagenen cleared another roster spot by shipping catcher Kevin Plawecki to the Cleveland Indians, however RHP Walker Lockett was added in his place as part of the deal.
At the moment, a trio of roster spots are also being occupied by Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright, and Franklyn Kilome, as all three can’t be added to the disabled list until Spring Training begins.
If the Mets sign any players to a big league deal before then, they will be forced to clear a roster spot. In that case, some possible candidates to be let go include righties Drew Gagnon, Paul Sewald, and Jacob Rhame. The Mets could also look to move players such as Juan Lagares, Todd Frazier, or Jason Vargas via trade.
