The Mets today landed four prospects on the Florida State League All-Star rosters. Jeff McNeil and Akeel Morris will play in the game representing the St. Lucie Mets while Michael Conforto and Robert Gsellman, recently promoted to Binghamton, were chosen but will not participate.

McNeil, 23, was chosen by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2013 draft, and has consistently hit for a high batting average. A third baseman and second baseman, McNeil is hitting .344/.398/.417 with seven doubles, a triple, a home run, and seven steals in 48 games so far this season. McNeil had an excellent first half last year with Savannah, slashing .332/.401/.461 in 59 games, but struggled in the second half with St. Lucie, batting .246/.329/.319 in 58 games.

Morris, 22, has finally seen some success the past tow years after a very shaky first few seasons in the minors. The 2010 tenth-round pick out of the Virgin Islands, has been excellent in the closer role for St. Lucie this season. In 20 appearances (including 17 games finished), Morris has a 1.59 ERA and ten saves. Even more impressively, he has struck out 39 batters in 28.1 innings, amounting to a 12.4 K/9 rate.

Conforto, the Mets’ first-round pick last season, hit .283/.350/.462 in 46 games with St. Lucie before his promotion. With St. Lucie, Conforto racked up 12 doubles and seven home runs. Since his promotion, Conforto is hitting .429/.543/.750 with a home run, four doubles, and a triple in eight games.

Gsellman, 21, posted a 2.60 ERA with St. Lucie over ten starts. The former 13th-round pick had an impressive 1.9 BB/9 ratio in his 51 innings. In ten innings since his promotion, Gsellman has allowed eight runs (7.20 ERA) on 13 hits, walking four and striking out ten.

The Florida State League All-Star Game will take place at 7 pm on June 20th at Port St. Lucie’s own Tradition Field.
