Ahead of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Washington Nationals, Mets manager Luis Rojas revealed that Jeff McNeil will “likely be activated Monday.” Rojas also said that Albert Almora won’t be available for Game 1 of the doubleheader, but will “most likely” be activated for Game 2.

The Mets also announced that right-hander Yennsy Díaz has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to serve as the 27th man on the roster. Díaz has appeared in two games of relief for the Mets in 2021 pitching in two innings, while striking out two, walking two, and giving up no hits, runs, or earned runs. That’s a small sample size, but in Triple-A the right-hander has faired pretty well in eight games, pitching 10 1/3 while allowing four earned runs, eight hits, five walks, and striking out 11.

If Díaz wants to stick around on the major league club for a while, he’ll need continue to not allow many baserunners to relieve pressure off of the rest of the bullpen moving forward.

Jacob deGrom threw a bullpen session Saturday morning at Nationals Park, and said that his bullpen sessions have gone well, and that he’s planning on pitching this Monday. While the Mets are taking things day-to-day, it’s a positive step in the right direction for deGrom, who has had three separate injury scares this season that never progressed into anything more major.
