Dominican Winter League
- Ronny Mauricio SS: 2-for-4, R, 2B, .333/.857 OPS
Mauricio continued his hot start at the plate with a two-hit game. He singled with one out in the 1st inning, the only hit that the starter, Felix Pena, would allow over his six innings of work. In the seventh inning, he ripped a double to center field off of Anthony Gose.
Less positively, he continued his cold start in the field as he made his fifth error in just six games during the Dominican Winter League season. The error proved to be the difference in the game, as a run scored on what would have otherwise been the third out of the second inning.
Mauricio had the opportunity to tie the game back up in the bottom of the ninth inning, but could only pop up against former Met Jenrry Mejia, who ended up closing out the game.
Arizona Fall League
- Brett Baty 3B: 1-for-4, R, K, .241/.733 OPS
- Hayden Senger C: 1-for-5, 2 K, .231/.624 OPS
- Wilmer Reyes SS: 2-for-5, RBI, K, ..238/.693 OPS
Mets prospects represented one-third of the starting lineup in Tuesday night’s game against the Scorpions. While the Rafters would eventually lose 10-9 on a walk-off single in the 10th inning, each of the three prospects contributed something in this game.
With the first two innings remaining scoreless, the Rafters would lead off the third with a walk, which Senger promptly followed with a line drive single to left field. Reyes, the next batter, would put the first run on the board with a line drive single of his own into center field. Senger moved to third on the hit, but was stranded there after Baty grounded into a double play with two outs. Reyes had one more single in the game – with one out in the top of the eighth – but was promptly picked off during the following at bat.
Baty’s double play killed the possibility of a rally in the third, but he would contribute to a larger rally in the fifth inning. Coming to the plate after a leadoff single, he added a line drive single to center of his own. He came in to score on a bases-clearing double five batters later, giving the Rafters what, at the time, seemed like a sizeable 6-1 lead.
Unfortunately, Baty’s afternoon came to a premature end when he was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was not announced why he was ejected from the game, but the ejection came immediately after the Scorpions’ Triston Casas reduced the Rafters’ lead to two runs with a RBI double.
Senger was held hitless for the remainder of the game, but did contribute on defense: he ended the seventh inning by picking a runner off of first base.
No Mets pitchers appeared in Tuesday’s game.
The Rafters will play their next game on Wednesday at 2:35 EST.
