The Mets (23-18) defeated the Milwaukee Brewers (18-24) tonight at Citi Field by a score of 3-2.

Pitching:

Steven Matz was greeted abruptly tonight as notorious all-or-nothing hitter Chris Carter took the Long Island native deep to center field for a two-run shot in the first.

Matz would settle down, however, allowing only one additional hit the rest of his outing. All together, Matz tossed seven innings, allowing just the two runs on three hits, while striking out eight and not walking a batter.

With tonight’s victory, Matz improved to 6-1 on the campaign, and 10-1 all together in thirteen career starts.

Addison Reed continued his dominance this season, pitching a clean eighth inning, which was followed by a clean inning from Jeurys Familia, who earned his 14th save of the year.

Offense:

After Milwaukee got off to an early lead, the Mets got a run back on an RBI groundout from Rene Rivera.

The turning point of the game, however, came in the sixth inning when Michael Conforto blasted a two-run shot off of Wily Peralta to give the Mets a 3-2 lead, which would stick and prove to be enough for the Mets to obtain victory.

On deck:

The Mets will look for the series victory tomorrow afternoon, with Jacob deGrom (3-1, 2.50 ERA) taking on Zach Davies (1-3, 5.58 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM.
